About these fees
The Ministry of External Affairs revised passport fees through the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, effective 1 July 2026, the first change in 14 years. This calculator uses the current official rates.

| Category | 36pg Normal | 36pg Tatkaal | 60pg Normal | 60pg Tatkaal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adult Fresh / Reissue | ₹2,500 | ₹5,000 | ₹3,500 | ₹6,000 |
| Minor (under 18) | ₹1,750 | ₹4,250 | — | — |
| Adult Lost / Damaged | ₹5,000 | ₹7,500* | ₹6,000 | ₹8,500* |
| Minor Lost / Damaged | ₹4,250 | ₹6,750* | — | — |
Understanding Tatkaal
The Tatkaal amount already includes the normal fee, it is not an add-on. An adult 36-page Tatkaal application costs ₹5,000 total, not ₹2,500 + ₹5,000. Tatkaal also requires eligibility documents and is subject to appointment availability; it does not guarantee same-day processing, and police verification is generally moved to after issue.
The 10% discount, precisely
The discount applies only to fresh applications where the applicant is a child up to age 8 or a senior citizen above 60, and only at Normal processing speed. It never applies to a reissue, even for the same age groups, and this calculator does not carry it forward if you switch to Tatkaal, since the Tatkaal amount is a single fixed figure rather than a base fee plus a separate surcharge you can discount part of. If you believe a discount should still apply on top of Tatkaal, confirm the exact figure with the official Fee Calculator before paying, we haven’t found an official source that spells this combination out.
Is police verification an extra cost?
What happens after you pay
- Book your appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office PSK using the date and slot shown after payment.
- Carry original documents (proof of address, date of birth, identity) along with the printed application receipt to your appointment.
- Biometrics and document verification happen at the PSK on the appointment day.
- Police verification is conducted separately by your local police station, at no extra cost, either before or after issue depending on your application type.
- Track your status online using your file number until the passport is dispatched to your address.
Common questions
Is the Tatkaal fee added on top of the normal fee?
No. The Tatkaal amount already includes the normal fee. For a 36-page adult passport, pay ₹5,000 total under Tatkaal, not ₹2,500 plus ₹5,000.
Can I use Tatkaal for a lost passport?
No. Tatkaal is not available if your passport was lost, stolen, or damaged beyond recognition, for adults or minors. It is only available for a damaged passport where the number, name and photo are still legible.
Do I get a discount on a passport renewal?
No. The 10% discount applies only to fresh applications by eligible children up to 8 and seniors above 60. Reissues and renewals do not qualify, even for the same age groups.
Do I have to pay extra for police verification?
No. Police verification is included in the passport fee you already pay. There’s no legitimate separate charge for it, anyone asking for extra money during verification is not following official process.
What’s the fee for a minor’s lost or damaged passport?
₹4,250 at Normal speed, or ₹6,750 if the passport is damaged but still legible enough to qualify for Tatkaal. This is lower than the adult lost/damaged rate, and, like the adult rate, only comes with a 36-page booklet.
Is this calculator accurate?
It reflects the fee structure effective 1 July 2026 as published by the Ministry of External Affairs. Fees can change, so always confirm the final payable amount on the official Passport Seva fee calculator before you pay.
